One Room Challenge Kitchen – Week No. 7

Holy cow, only one week left to complete my The One Room Challengeâ„¢ colorful kitchen remodel. This week I finally tackled the butcher block bar top and got the patterned tile installed on the back. The faucet also went in and I got a few sewing projects completed. I accomplished a lot but there is still a ton to do but you check out the sneak peek above while you wait.

For those of you who aren’t familiar, The One Room Challengeâ„¢ is a biannual interior design blog and Instagram event. In each round, twenty design influencers are selected to take the challenge as Featured Designers, and transform a space and any blogger or Instagrammer can join as ORC Guest participants by linking their room transformation each week. Every Wednesday, the designers document their process while sharing their sources and professional advice over eight weekly posts.

WEEK 1 / WEEK 2 / WEEK 3 / WEEK 4 / WEEK 5 / WEEK 6 / WEEK 7 (You are here) / WEEK 8 – REVEAL

I also want to give a big thanks to Lights.com and Amerock for gifting products to help complete this project.

Now let’s get to what I accomplished this week working towards my colorful kitchen remodel.

INSTALL BAR TOP

Do you remember my naked bar top from last week? Well, this week I finally got the waterfall edge butcher block installed.

Using two 45 degrees miter cuts to accomplish this look. I positioned and adjusted my vertical and horizontal pieces until I got the tightest fit possible at the corned. I adhered the top and side to the knee wall with Heavy Duty Liquid Nails and used wood glue at the joint which I clamped with a corner clamp until everything dried. Once everything was firm I came back and used wood filler at any cracks in the joint and sanded it down before reapplying stain to the newly finished joint. I will come back with a coat of polyurethane once this is dry.

TILING BAR

With the bar top on I was ready to tile the bar front using a patterned tile and silver grout. This tile is a Mallorca Porcelain Tile from Floor and Decor.

Install Faucet

The new Kraus Oletto Kitchen Faucet in Antique Champagne Bronze went in and is a great match with my Amerock Winsome Collection cabinet hardware.

Recover dining chair seats

I also tackled a few soft projects, one being recovering my dining chair seats with a high-performance chenille fabric. Unforuntlay this job needs to be done about once a year since my son seems to think the seat is a napkin. Hopely this darker high-performance fabric will hold up a little longer.

Sew and Install roman shade

My second soft project was sewing a roman shade to replace the old shutters. This will be much more functional than the shutters that were blocked by the sink faucet and also add a nice texture to the window.
