One Room Challenge – Back Entry Hall – Final Reveal!

We made it, Week 8 of The One Room Challenge™ is here and it’s time for the big reveal! For all you guys who have been following along from the beginning, thanks for hanging in there. I hope today’s post was worth the wait. I know I get excited every time I head out through my new back entry hall so I hope you get excited too.

Before we delve too deep I want to give the biggest thanks to Sazerac StitchesTempaper, and Handy Products who gifted me items to help complete this project. I will add a full source list at the end of this post including direct links to all the products I used but these three deserve a special shout-out for being behind me from the beginning.

For those of you who are stopping by for the first time and are completely confused by what is going on, The One Room Challenge™ is a biannual interior design blog and Instagram event. In each round, twenty design influencers are selected to take the challenge as Featured Designers, and transform a space and any blogger or Instagrammer can join as ORC Guest Participant by linking their own room transformation each week. Every Wednesday, the designers document their process while sharing their sources and professional advice over eight weekly posts.

Now let’s get to it…

Before:

When I began this space was pretty sad and very vanilla. When we moved in it was painted an electric yellow so it got a make-under with a coat of off-white paint and I hung a picture and my giant “M” but that was as far as it ever got. Outside the door In the garage, it even had a cut of old carpet for an entry rug. Supper sad but practical I guess.

Look, even the dog feels sad about this space.

The Plan:

So it was time for a change, a big one! My idea for the update was to make this entry a jewel box surprise when you open the door. Lots of color, lots of fun, and lots of art (bird art to be exact.)

The Reveal:

Now for a much warmer welcome! If you enter through the garage, which we do every day, you are now greeted with a much happier entry complete with a wink and a smile…

The fun begins before you even enter the door with a washable leopard matt form TJMaxx toped with a Pink Wink for extra foot scrubbing.

The door got a coat of Sherwin Williams HGTV Home Coral Reef and new Schlage Latitude Matte Black hardware.

I hand mixed six shades of Coral Reef and white to ombre the stair risers and gave the treads a fresh coat of Minwax Polyshades Classic Black. the walls got a board and batten treatment and a bright coat of Sherwin Williams HGTV Home Talipot Palm.

For the lighting, I wanted something bright and fun so the Daisy Loa Chandelier from Sazerac Stitches was a perfect fit.

Check out the perfect little daisy at the base of the shade.

At the landing, I created a drop zone so you could come right in and get comfortable. A bench from TJMaxx got a coat of Cherry Red spray paint. I also found some great hooks from Franklin Brass for hanging bags and jackets once it turns cold.

The floor was a true labor of love which started with the Premavera Tile Stencil from cutting edge stencils and ended in several layers of hand painting on top for the look of hand-painted floor tiles. I did this to get more colors on the floor and it definitely is colorful.

The upper walls we done Tempaper Moire Dot in Coral removable wallpaper and then layered with all kinds of bird art from vintage pieces, to new art from artists like Vivienne StraussAshley Dietrich, and Melvin G, to DIY pieces I made or painted myself.

The overall effect is a collage of color and a whole lot of fun. This is a room that doesn’t take itself too seriously and I hope when you drop by you won’t either.
