This week is One Room Challenge week four, that means half way to the goal. Thanks to some beautiful gifted wallpaper from Tempaper we are finally getting to see some coral up against the green, and it really pops.
For those of you who are stopping by for the first time, The One Room Challenge™ is a biannual interior design blog and Instagram event. In each round, twenty design influencers are selected to take the challenge as Featured Designers, and transform a space and any blogger or Instagrammer can join as ORC Guest Participant by linking their own room transformation each week. Every Wednesday, the designers document their process while sharing their sources and professional advice over eight weekly posts.
My previous posts on the topic are below if you need to get up to speed.
WEEK 1 / WEEK 2 / WEEK 3 / WEEK 4 (You are here) / WEEK 5 / WEEK 6 / WEEK 7 / WEEK 8 – REVEAL

For this small space I decided on a small print since I knew I would be hanging some bold art. I chose Tempaper Moire Dot in Coral which reads more like a texture than a print, sort of like grass cloth. I thought it would be a beautiful background that wouldn’t compete with the art. I have hung temporary wallpaper several times (see tutorial HERE) but the height of the far end of this space made this install little more challenging. Thankfully I had my handy scaffold I built to paint the ceiling available to help.
Another big help was taking the time to precut and label all my panels before ever getting up on the ladder. You see, each section needs to be matched to the next so that the pattern lines up which means a lot of matching and cutting. Add to that the small print which makes lining up the pattern even harder, so rather than try to match the pattern for each section once it was up on the wall, I took the time to take measurements of how long each piece needed to be and laid them out on the floor. I matched the pattern at the seams, cut the panel with a few extra inches on each end, and labeled them with a number and which end was up.
You can see in the video that means I didn’t have to stop between each panel and do tedious matching up on the ladder. I think it was also a big help in not confusing the direction of the print since with this particular pattern it is not exactly obvious which end is up.
The end result was definitely worth a little bit of extra planning.
And how about that art? Looking pretty snazzy up against the dots! Now I just need to find it some friends…
My other coral tasks this week were painting the doors and ombre-ing the stair risers. For this I bought some disposable left over containers and mixed six different shade of coral. Starting with my darkest base shade (unmixed) and then proportionally adding more white to each mix to have six slightly different shade which get lighter as you go up the stairs.
Look at me working hard and covered in paint, as usual.
I also used the darkest shade to paint the doors, I considered changing these out but the ones I really wanted were way backordered so I figured a fresh coat of paint would at least get them looking better.
Once the doors were looking better I really noticed the old locksets were looking pretty bad too, so I switched them out for new Schlage Latitude Matte Black locksets. I recently change all our interior door handles to matte black so these last two were ready to follow suit.
Definitely got some hard work done this week and now I’m really seeing the progress. Next week’s challenge is painting the patterned floor which was not the original plan so we will see how that goes.
Until then, wish me luck!
