I am back again for week two of the Spring 2021 One Room Challenge. If you were not here last week, I’ll let you in on what’s going on. The One Room Challenge™, currently in its twentieth season, is a biannual interior design blog and Instagram event. In each round, twenty design influencers are selected to take the challenge, as Featured Designers, and transform a space. Every Wednesday, the designers document their process while sharing their sources and professional advice over eight weekly posts. You can check out those designers below.
I will be renovating my back entry hall as a ORC Guest Participant by linking my own room transformation up my progress during the future weeks.
I will be linking my previous posts on the topic below if you need to get up to speed.
WEEK 1 / WEEK 2 ( You are here) / WEEK 3 / WEEK 4 / WEEK 5 / WEEK 6 / WEEK 7 / WEEK 8 – REVEAL

Below is a reminder of my mood board and where I want to end up, so lets get to it and see if we can get there….
But first a quick Thank you to some of the brands I’ll be working with!
Sazerac Stiches, Tempaper and Handy Products all of whom have gifted me items to help complete this project
This week was not for pretty pictures, it was a week for demo and constructions in the back entry hall. Before any painting or wallpapering can get done I needed to get the wainscoting and new door casing installed. But before that could happen I needed to do a little demo.
Remember this is look I am going for.
My old trim had some decorative cap moulding that did not work with my new board and batten design so it had to go. After I removed all the unwanted moulding and scraped the old caulk I was ready for the real work, getting up the board and batten.
The hardest part of this install was the math of working out the even spacing or my vertical boards combined with the angled cuts to account for the stairs and top mouldings. Below you can see my process.
I used my nail gun to attach the boards but because most of the vertical pieces will not fall exactly at a stud I added a bead of Liquid Nails to each piece for added support.
In addition to the wainscoting I also replaces all the traditional door casings with a mission style that blended better with the board and batten.
Once all the trim was up it was a matter of caulking and drywall repair. Once it all dries I will be ready for paint.
You can see from my mood board there will be a lot of paint.
I guess the real question is what color. I’ve been doing some test swatches but you’ll have to stop by next week to see what color I choose.

I hope you chose the darker green!

You’ll have to wait and see. I will say the color I chose was not the one I originally picked.
