What’s Happening with Me
Welcome to Friday High Five No. 102, I’m glad you stopped by to see what’s been going on. October has been a busy month for me and has flown by so fast.
Months ago I bought tickets to a reading by Dave Sedaris . His dark humor makes this more like a comedy show than a literary reading. So on the 11th my husband and I had a date night with Dave. I have gone to his readings before and if you read any of his books (affiliate) after seeing him in person you will forever hear them in his own voice. I think this makes them even better so I highly recommend.
The following weekend, I took a girls’ trip to Charleston with At Home with Ashley and The Inspired Tourist. We went to some fun flea markets and toured Charleston homes, we even took a carriage ride. I live fairly close and visit Charleston pretty often but it is more fun to do it with friends.
Upon my return we had another theater outing to see the Broadway musical Come From Away. I bought season tickets this year to see six musical, but didn’t realize the first event fell so closely to all the other things planned this month. This musical was amazing and quite amusing. It focused on the true story of 7,000 stranded passengers and the small town in Newfoundland after planes were grounded due to 9-11. The context was not funny but the welcome they got form Newfoundland was heartwarming.
This past weekend was my birthday weekend and my husband surprised me with a trip up to Saluda, NC in the Blue Ridge Mountains. There were no set plans other than a birthday dinner reservation Saturday night so we estate saled our way there, scored some great finds, and enjoyed the drive through the fall leaves. We stayed at the Orchard Inn and had dinner at the on site restaurant, Newman’s, named after the hotel cat. It was delicious by the way and I did get to meet the cat. On the way home we “shopped the lot” at The Rock House Antiques in Greenville, SC and found a few goodies there as well. It was great birthday weekend and I appreciate all the planning my husband put in to surprise me.
You see I wasn’t lying about the busy month. Can you tell we are taking advantage of our newly empty nest? I have a few slow weeks before Thanksgiving, when we will have a house full, so I guess I better rest up!
Now let’s get to my High Five…
FRIDAY HIGH-FIVE
- Favorite Follows: I’ve been following Jessica Brigham since 2019 when she shared the above kitchen reveal as part of the One Room Challenge. The green cabinets grabbed me but Jessica’s love for big and bold designs kept me returning for more. You can find her on jessicabrigham.com, on Instagram @ImJessicaBrigham and you can even hire her via her E-design services. Be sure to check her out.
- What I’m Reading: If you love The Crown you will love Lady in Waiting: My Extraordinary Life in the Shadow of the Crown by Anne Glenconner. Anne was a Maid of Honor at Queen Elizabeth’s coronation and a lady-in-waiting to Princess Margaret until she died in 2002. This book is a fascinating look into Anne’s life which has encompassed extraordinary drama and tragedy.
- Shopping: Now that fall has arrived I have been hunting for a pretty pair of brown knee-high boots to pair with longer skirts for winter. I think I found the winner in these Kalina boots (affiliate) and because they are from Naturalizer they are comfortable too.
- Artist Spotlight: Artist Sharlene Kayne creates her art using handmade paper torn and collaged into beautiful images, mostly in the image of interesting women. You can find her work on Instagram where she often does individual sales and also on Facebook. I am amazed by the detail of these images using only torn paper.
- Favorite Find: I love an architect who thinks outside of the box and The Reversible Destiny Lofts—Mitaka (In Memory of Helen Keller) built by Arakawa and Madeline Gins thinks outside of the box, sphere, and cylinder. Its interest lies in the way that the building stimulates the visitor, bringing attention to the full potential of the body.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND GUYS!
