What’s Happening
Welcome to It’s Friday, High Five! No. 99 hope you don’t mind that it’s on a Saturday…
It was a busy holiday season and I haven’t done a Friday, High Five in a while so I thought it was high time. Even if it is on Saturday.
We spent our Christmas holiday in Portugal visiting our daughter who is currently doing a fellowship in Europe. I had not been to Europe since we moved back from Germany in 2015. I have missed the lifestyle of being mostly pedestrian, having amazing coffee at every corner that is NOT Starbucks, and history and age that is sometimes incomprehensible compared to American History. My daughter is living in Germany but since we lived there for two years we decide on somewhere else in Europe for the visit. The warmer weather in Portugal made it a prime contender for a winter trip.
We tried planning the trip ourselves. I quickly got overwhelmed so we ended up planning our trip through Tour Tailors. They planned everything from your ride from the airport to what you might eat for dinner. It took a lot of stress out of the planning and they offered options we would not have considered. It was a splurge but we decided not to do any big gifts so that we could spend time as a family for Christmas. We had an amazing trip and it was well worth every penny. Portugal is so beautiful and with all the coastline I think I need to plan another trip for the summertime.
Now let’s get to my High Five…
Friday High Five
- Favorite Follows: I love seeing how creative minds work and how each individual can create their very own style. This week must follow influencer Melanie Thomas Design or on IG @Melanie_Thomas_Design. Melanie loves getting weird with interior design. She calls herself a “repressed California-maximalist”. (Translation: “I like earthy,hippie-dippyy things with a touch of neon and glamour.) I don’t care what she calls herself, I call her fabulous.
- What I Watched: The New Season of Emily in Paris on Netflix of course. This show is low-stress and funny but even better the fashion is amazing. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s filmed in Paris.
- Shopping: This Kate Spade Clic 3d Camera Bag is a bit of a splurge but how fun. A purse that looks like a camera. And if you are an Emily in Paris fan, It reminds me of her camera phone case, which you can buy for a little less of a splurge.
- Artist Spotlight: I am constantly finding the most amazing little know artist on Instagram and sometimes I’m immediately moved to buy a piece. Paige Ledom of @theovergrownhome is one of those. She makes papercut art out of brightly colored scraps from paint samples. You would not believe the detail! I bought an original but if your budget doesn’t allow it, she also sells prints of her work at The Over Overgrown Home
- Favorite Find: with my Architecture background I would say reading floorplans is one of my favorite things. So when I ran across this tumbler account of Vintage Home Plan from the 20th-century of houses from around the world I was hooked. I just love seeing how people live and divide their space. Plus it always gives me a few ideas.
