Week One
Happy New Year! While we are all thinking about making things better in the new year, how about a New Year New Room Refresh Challenge hosted by Stephanie at Casa Watkins Living? It’s basically the challenge is to refresh a room/space to kick off the New Year. I’ll be working on this space through the month of January, revealing my progress every Tuesday. The last Tuesday of the month will be the reveal. You can follow along with me and the other bloggers I’ll link at the end of this post or you can join in. You can work on any refresh, nothing is too big or small. Just get the ball rolling. If you do you can share your progress with us on Instagram by tagging your photos #newyearnewroomchallenge
My Refresh Project
There’s always that one part of the house you never get around to finishing… For me, that has been the stairway up to our bonus room which is now our primary guest room. You may remember last year I transformed this room (for the third time) it into a fun colorful Hollywood Regency style that makes me smile every time I enter the room.
You may remember the guest room started off a sad, dull blue.
The Plan
Unfortunately, the stairway up to this space is still the sad dull blue. I have delayed tackling this space because the ceiling is vaulted. The highest part is almost 14′ and I have been too lazy to figure out a way to get up there to paint it. Today is the day I make that happen. I am going to start by painting this space the same Valspar Mosaic Pink that is in the rest of the room. High corners and all!
On the left wall, I’m thinking of a wall mural. Inspired by the colors and patterns in my Spoonflower Banana Palm wallpaper.
Imagine these colors and patterns transformed into graphic shapes. Like the beautiful banana leaf murals by Liz Kamarul
And I love the botanical art of Mary Singleton. I already have a few of her pieces in the bonus room and guest bath so why not put some of that same feel in the staircase? Imagine a mural somewhere between these two images.
I’m also thinking of adding a stair runner, something colorful would be fun but If I do a colorful mural maybe something more neutral like a subtle animal print could work too.
The lighting in here is so sad and I have some height so maybe we spice it up with some color, I love these Stray Dog Design chandeliers but then again I may feel an Inspired by DIY coming on…
I may have a few more details to fine-tune along the way but hopefully, you are getting the picture.
Now that you’ve seen all I’m thinking about or my New Year New Room Refresh Staircase, stop by and see what other rooms these bloggers are taking on for the challenge.
