Week 7 seven of my ORC Master Closet Remodel marks off the last of the to-do list. Next week is the big reveal so I don’t want to give too much away but I can tell you what I have been up to this week.
If you are here for the first time and are completely confused, The One Room Challenge™ is a biannual interior design blog and Instagram event showcasing designers and Influencers. Everyone with an online presence is invited and welcome to join in the fun by linking up each Wednesday for eight consecutive weeks. Each Wednesday, the internet and social media are flooded with interior design inspiration, original ideas, encouragement, and motivation.
Each week I will update you on the Master Closet Remodel’s progress and keep you up to date here.
WEEK 1 / WEEK 2 / WEEK 3 / WEEK 4 / WEEK 5 / WEEK 6 / WEEK 7 (you are here) / WEEK 8
I will be sharing the progress as well as all the tools and materials I use in case you want to try them for yourself. I want to give a special thanks to Tempaper and Wagner Spray Tech for gifting products to help in the completion of this project.
You can also check out what all other ORC Guest Participants are accomplishing each week over at The One Room Challenge!
The Plan
Below is the starting mood board, It is always fun to see what changes were made to the original plan. Sometimes it has to do with product availability but sometimes I just change my mind.
The Before
Yikes, I don’t miss this mess. The closet is still not completely put back together. I am ready for week eight so I can get back to a fully functioning closet.
Paint
I painted the door black. This was not part of the original plan but once I saw the Zebras in Love on the wall I knew the door needed to be black. Since I already had the paint, Why not?
Storage
Sometimes the original box something came in is the most useful storage. Unfortunately, like in the case of our cowboy hats, that box is not very pretty. This week I got a little creative and used the leftover Tempaper to cover the box. Now it seamlessly blends with the rest of the room.
Rug
I also decided on a rug. I had several wool rugs I was looking at but in the end decided a washable rug was a better choice.
This Earth All Boho Runner from Amazon was the winner. The blue goes perfectly with the built-ins and it is so soft. Plus, I really love the addition of red to the space and now I want more.
Art
To add more red I have been hunting for a piece of art. Unfortunately, the space that is available requires just the right piece that I haven’t found yet. Until I find the perfect piece I figured I could make my own. This is an easy DIY art project you can do even if you don’t have a talent for drawing.
I started with a piece of clearance shadow box art from TJMaxx that I will use as a base. This only cost me $12.
I then tore watercolor paper into mountain shapes and colored each piece differently with watercolor paint.
Once I had all my pieces arranged as I liked I used rubber cement to glue them down right on top of the TJMaxx art. Now it’s back in the frame and taking a test run in the closet.
It is not the perfect piece but it was fun to make and will work for now. Whether it stays or goes I am seeing that the closet needs that little bit of red to tie in the new rug.
What Remains
As you can see the tasks list for my One Room Challenge™ Master Closet Remodel is complete. This next week I will be styling, photographing, and maybe still hunting for the perfect art but no matter what next week will be the big reveal.
