What’s Happening
This past weekend was my Birthday, I turned 48 which seems so weird. My husband planned a lovely weekend for my birthday. We went out to a nice dinner Saturday night and a concert in the park on Sunday. We also attended a horse and hound expo fortunately we had enough self-control not to bring home either. He even ordered me a cookie cake which he knows is my favorite. Unfortunately, there was a slight glitch plan when he sent our 17-year-old son to pick it up.
As is typical you pick up the cake, they show it to you, you say looks great, and go home. Normally you would actually read the cake when they show it to you but a 17-year-old boy apparently just moves straight to the go-home part. Before lighting the candles my husband comes in with a grave face. He says “You know how we always say the intent is more important than the action?” Oh, dear… Well, the cake read “Happy 14th Birthday River” with a container of popcorn on it. Not what my husband had ordered. I’m pretty sure the pink, orange, yellow and green cake was not what River ordered. But it’s now 8:30 at night and the festivities are in full swing so we had to live with River’s cake.
That’s about how adult birthdays go. Another year passes you share your birthday cake with a 14-year-old and you keep on trucking. All and all it was a nice birthday and River’s cake was quite tasty, so no complaints from me. After all the intent is more important than the action…
Now let’s get to my High Five…
Friday High Five
- Favorite Follows: If you aren’t familiar with Stephanie at Casa Watkins Living you have to stop by and check out her global eclectic style. She is a talented designer with a love of color and pattern but she is also an amazing person in real life. If you are on the go you can also find her on Instagram sharing all her latest projects.
- What I Watched: Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres so I love period pieces like The Empress on Netflix. This series is based on the true story of the early life of Empress Elisabeth of Austria. The costumes and sets are beautiful and the story of a strong-willed girl in a time where you are expected to fall in line made me want to learn more.
- Shopping: I love a good coffee table book and often buy them out of the blue as a little happy gift to myself. This week I ordered Bloom Wild, this is a book full of modern florals bursting with color by artist Bari J. Akerman. It shares tips on pattern mixing and using floral prints in your decor and is full of beautiful photography. It definitely made me happy!
- Artist Spotlight: I ran across Ina Dryeborg of Dryeborg Studios on Instagram and her colorful textile art on Instagram but I immediately headed over to see her colorful world of hand tufting. I think I have added a few pieces to my wish list.
- Favorite Find: Did you know the largest collection of Moorish Revival architecture in America and the Western Hemisphere is in Miami, Florida? In the 1920s Multimillionaire Glenn Curtiss was behind the construction of a community name Opa-locka and many of the buildings still stand today, you can learn more here. Or maybe a road trip anyone?
Have a great weekend guys!
Here are a few previous high-fives…
