One Room Challenge Week 1
Who’s ready for the Fall 2022 One Room Challenge™? I’m tackling my Master Closet Remodel, a space that has always needed some love but is constantly overlooked. This fall the master closet will finally have its moment.
If you are here for the first time and are completely confused, The One Room Challenge™ is a biannual interior design blog and Instagram event showcasing designers and Influencers. Everyone with an online presence is invited and welcome to join in the fun by linking up each Wednesday for eight consecutive weeks. Each Wednesday, the internet and social media are flooded with interior design inspiration, original ideas, encouragement, and motivation.
Each week I will update you on the Master Closet Remodel’s progress and keep you up to date here.
WEEK 1 (you are here) / WEEK 2 / WEEK 3 / WEEK 4 / WEEK 5 / WEEK 6 / WEEK 7 / WEEK 8
I will be sharing the progress as well as all the tools and materials I use in case you want to try them for yourself. I want to give a special thanks to Tempaper and Wagner Spray Tech for gifting products to help in the completion of this project.
You can also check out what all other ORC Guest Participants are accomplishing each week over at The One Room Challenge! So let’s get this party started.
The Problem Room
Take a look at my next victim! The master closet you can see is not a bad size 6′ x 10′ and since my husband and I are not major clothes hoarders the size is plenty for us. The problem is how we are using the space. Everything fits in okay but the organization is severely lacking.
Shoes are the biggest problem (apparently we ARE shoe hoarders. Okay, maybe it’s less we and more me) I have been storing many of my shoes in the original boxes but this is terrible. Having them stacked makes getting to the bottom ones difficult and putting them away is a major hassle. They usually end up getting left on the floor until there are too many to step over. This will need to be resolved.
I need to do a big purge of things I no longer use or wear.
Things that really should not be in this closet, like the suitcases, need to go elsewhere.
I need to upgrade the lighting, I like pretty but I don’t want to sacrifice good light.
I’d also like to infuse some style and fun into the space. I’ll be painting the built-ins, adding wallpaper, and adding attractive storage.
Inspiration
Here are a few inspirational photos to help you see my vision…
I love the idea of wallpaper on the ceiling. In a closet, you don’t see much of the wall so why not use it on the ceiling instead, like this closet by Erin Kestenbaum.
I am trying to keep the budget down on this remodel so I’m planning to use paint leftover from my ORC Kitchen. Lindsey at Hilltown House used a very similar color in her master closet and I love the look.
And if we are talking style and drama Camille at The Kurtz Home nailed it! You may remember she started this closet during the Spring 2022 One Room Challenge.
The Plan
Okay now for the plan. How to turn my rather sad master closet into a fabulous space like the ones above.
For the remodel I am planning to keep all the existing built-ins and paint them in Sherwin Williams Interesting Aqua but the real star of the show will be the Tempaper removable wallpaper that will be going on the front and back walls as well as the ceiling. I am choosing lighter zebra wallpaper to keep the closet from getting too dark.
I will also be upgrading the organization with attractive storage boxes and accessories to keep things straight. I’ll also be updating the lighting and adding a colorful runner. Everyone needs to keep the tootsies warm in the morning while looking for clothes. These items are still undecided but you can look below at some of these items. I’d love to know your thoughts. Alright now, enough chatting I need to get to work on my Master Closet Remodel. If you want to look back at some of my past The One Room Challenge™ reveals, click the images to see more.
I’m very much looking forward to watching this design come to life.
I don’t know if it will be as fabulous as yours but it will definitely be an improvement.
Bravo to you lady!! I already knows it’s going to be another amazing design!! You’ve got great inspiration so no doubt it’ll be a winner
Thanks Jamala, You are always my biggest cheerleader. I’m excited if I only get my shoes in order the rest will just be a fun bonus.
