Full disclosure: Comfort Works provided me with a FRIHETEN slipcover for this review but there was no paid compensation. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This post does contain affiliate links.
It’s week four of the Spring 2022 One Room Challenge™, That means we are halfway through with lots still to do. Today we are going to be discussing a small change that will make a big impact, my new Comfort works Friheten Snug Fit slipcover. That’s right the green sofa in my mood board is actually just a new slipcover for my seven-year-old Friheten. This is an affordable quick fix that has given this sofa new life.
If you are here for the first time and are completely confused, The One Room Challenge™ is a biannual interior design blog and Instagram event. In each round, twenty design influencers are selected to take the challenge as Featured Designers, and transform a space. Any blogger or Instagrammer can also join as a ORC Guest participant by linking their room transformation each week. Every Tuesday, the designers document their process while sharing their sources and professional advice over eight weekly posts.
Each week I will update you on the progress and keep you up to date here.

The Sponsors
Before we get too far I want to give a big shout-out to my One Room Challenge sponsors who will be gifting projects to help complete this project. I’ll be working with Photowall for my wall mural, cabinet hardware from Amerock, art from Urban Garden Prints, and this week’s sponsor, Comfort Works who provided me with a new slipcover for my Friheten Ikea sofa
The Slipcover Selection
It has been 7 years since I received my first Comfort Works Ikea Friheten slipcover (affiliate) If you have followed me for a while you may remember the selections process and review I did at the time and the follow-up I did last fall. I am a huge fan of slipcovers especially those from Comfort Works so when it was time to makeover my husband’s office I jumped at the chance to update our Friheten sofa as well.
I started the process with Fabric. ComfortWorks will send you 8 free samples to help you make your final selection. I was leaning towards green but I ordered a few other options as well. I loved the Comfort Chenille and some of the Performance Weaves but my heart kept going back to the Emerald Green Classic Velvet. Isn’t she pretty!
Next step, choose the fit. The Friheten comes in a Farmhouse and a Snug fit. I chose the Comfort Works Snug Fit FRIHETEN Slipcover because I like an upholstered look, but you can see the Farmhouse cover on the left totally changes the look of the sofa. If you want to explore more style options Comfort Work also has a Slipcover Style Guide and currently carries slipcover for 35 different brands. They even does custom covers, so don’t feel like you have to have an Ikea sofa to update your sofa (or chair, or ottoman) using Comfort Works.
Once I finally had my style and fabric fabric selected I placed my order. The turnaround time is pretty quick considering this is a custom made item, delivery only took 2-3 weeks. It arrived in a handy storage bag and Daisy did a quick quality check before I took it out to try it on for size.
The Slipcover Installation
As I said, this is my second so I thought I knew what to expect with the installation but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. In the 7 years since my last Friheten Snug Fit Slipcover order and since then Comfort Works has made some changes for the better. My older slipcover while very snug and completely upholstered looking required the sofa to be disassemble to put it on. This new slipcover r quired NO disassembly of the sofa itself. Getting it only took about 20 minutes and that included adding an additional strip of velcro (provided with slipcover) to the lip of the bed pullout.
The Transformation
Take a look at this Comfort Works slipcover transformation. How lush is this Emerald Green Velvet? I’m in love!
My quality tester approves too….
Ottomans
Now that my sofa is looking lux my ottomans needed a makeover too.
I used a jaguar print velvet, Jamil Natural, to create a new covers.
These are basically just a slipcover that I pulled over the top and stapled on.
Now I have a full, fabulous, velvet set, I even had enough fabric leftover to make a matching throw pillow.
Welcome to the jungle!
And look the To-do list is getting shorter.
