It’s week three of the Spring 2022 One Room Challenge™, and today I’m excited to share the installation for my Photowall. My inspiration photo shows lots of colors but I wanted a neutral background. But you know me, basic beige just ain’t my style. Instead, I chose a neutral that would be interesting the Photowall Tangled Jungle mural in black and white. This week I finally went on the wall so let me share how the installation went, and where we are at in the ORC makeover.
If you are here for the first time and are completely confused, The One Room Challenge™ is a biannual interior design blog and Instagram event. In each round, twenty design influencers are selected to take the challenge as Featured Designers, and transform a space. Any blogger or Instagrammer can also join as a ORC Guest participant by linking their room transformation each week. Every Tuesday, the designers document their process while sharing their sources and professional advice over eight weekly posts.
Each week I will update you on the progress and keep you up to date here.

The Sponsors
Before we get too far I want to give a big shout-out to my One Room Challenge sponsors who will be gifting projects to help complete this project. I’ll be working with Comfort Works on a slipcover for the Friheten Ikea sofa, cabinet hardware from Amerock, art from Urban Garden Prints, and of course this week’s sponsor, my wall mural from Photowall.
The Progress
I started the week with my built-ins and trim paint completed and ready for my wall mural. I chose the Tangled Jungle mural in black and white and selected the premium-quality wallpaper. The premium paper is more resistant to scrapes and suitable for cleaning products. It also has less glare than the standard paper which I knew would be better with my new recessed lights. When the paper arrived I was very impressed with the sturdy quality and the crispness of the print itself.
I won’t give you a step-by-step on the installation because Photowall includes pretty detailed assembly instructions in their packaging and shares the video below. If you want to see my installation step by step you can check out my installation on my Instagram Photowall Highlights.
The Process
I will, however, share my thoughts on the process.
When you order you specify the wall measurement (+2.5″-4″) and the wallpaper is printed to your specific measurements. The panels will arrive as a single roll divided into numbered strips in the order they should be hung on the wall. This makes hanging your wallpaper fun and easy, but it also means almost no waist. You simply cut each panel at the dashed line and hang the strips as you go. No confusion about which panel goes next.
Another bonus, wallpaper paste is included in your order, and mixing the powdered glue included in your package is simple. Mix the powder in lukewarm water. In five minutes it will thicken and be ready for wallpapering. Paint the mixed glue directly onto the wall with a brush or roller and you are ready to hang.
You glue the wallpaper straight onto the wall, no booking or waiting. I tried to be sure to only paint one panel width of glue at a time since I didn’t want it to dry before I got the panel applied. You’ll hang the strips from edge to edge for a seamless mural.
If you want to make your installation even easier, I recommend ordering the wallpaper kit. It includes everything you’ll need for your installation except for the mixing bucket. I’m glad I did because it saved me running around trying to find all the different supplies.
In the end, I decided to hang the Tangled Jungle mural on two walls since the design was large enough to have very little repeating on each wall.
I am experienced at wallpaper hanging so the entire job only took me a couple of hours and was something I easily tackled alone. If you are new to wallpaper it may be helpful to have a second set of hands, but is not completely necessary.
The Review
I am so pleased with the result of my Photowall mural installation. The hanging process was very straightforward and was made even easier by being able to have all the supplies delivered to my doorstep. The premium paper is thick and durable, I had no problems with tearing or stretching. But by far my favorite thing was the selection. My Tangled Jungle came in several colorways but there are hundreds of murals to choose from, the only drawback was having to choose just one. Better yet you can also upload your own image to create your own unique wallpaper.
