Welcome to week four of my One Room Challenge colorful kitchen remodel. We are now halfway and I am making a few changes, notice anything different in the mood board above? I had to do a little pivoting this week due to product availability. The changes aren’t major but I do think they will make a big impact on the finished project, so let’s take a look at these and what progress I made this week.
For those of you who aren’t familiar, The One Room Challenge™ is a biannual interior design blog and Instagram event. In each round, twenty design influencers are selected to take the challenge as Featured Designers, and transform a space and any blogger or Instagrammer can join as ORC Guest participants by linking their room transformation each week. Every Wednesday, the designers document their process while sharing their sources and professional advice over eight weekly posts.

I also want to give a big thanks to Lights.com and Amerock for gifting products to help complete this project.
Backsplash
The changes really begin with the backsplash. I planned to continue my original backsplash tile up the wall behind the hood but after searching my original source and many others I was unable to find a matching tile. This means I need to use a contrasting tile in its place. Last week I cut out a section of the old tile and now week I have finally decided what tile I was going to fill it back in.
I decided on the American Olean VitaScape Midnight Satin tile in 4″x12″ which I am laying in a herringbone pattern just up the wall behind where the hood will go.
Of course, this one change has a snowball effect and sets off a whole string of other changes to be made. One of those was the tile planned for the bar front that was originally going to be black and white. You can mix black and navy but it doesn’t always feel right and in this case, it definitely did not. Fortunately in the hunt for my backsplash tile, I ran across this Moda Del MarMallorca Porcelain Tile an amazing patterned tile that was too busy for the backsplash but perfect for the bar front.
Paint hood
The next link in the chain continued into the hood color selection. I purchased my Zline wood hood unfinished because I planned to paint it navy. Now with the navy on the backsplash that plan doesn’t work. Back to the deliberations!
After many mood boards, test swatches, and opinions, (which my husband has decided he doesn’t like to have) I settled on an olive green which works well with the countertop and wallpaper. Sorry, I can’t share the exact color because I mixed it myself.
With the color decided I painted up the hood and will hopefully be able to get it all connected this week.
Hardware
One item that did not change was my Amerock Winsome Collection cabinet hardware but it did arrive so this week I am getting it installed. It is so pretty in the champagne bronze!
If you are installing a large amount of cabinet hardware this King&Charles Cabinet Hardware Jig(affiliate) is a must-have. I can’t recommend this tool enough for drawer pulls, it makes the process so much easier especially if you have many drawers of the same size. It is set it and forget it.
So there you have it, pivot complete, and it is a perfect pirouette I think. I love the original design but some of the changes I’m loving even better. A perfect example of why you shouldn’t be afraid to make changes mid-project. Sometimes the pivots bring happy accidents.

We’re doing our shower with this tile! What paint color are you going with?

It’s a gorgeous tile I have HGTV Sherwin Willams Tradewind Blue on the opposite walls but I think it would be pretty with grey paint too.
