Full disclosure: Comfort Works provided me with a FRIHETEN slipcover for this review but there was no paid compensation. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This post does contain affiliate links.
It has been 6 years since I received my Comfort Works Ikea Friheten slipcover (affiliate) If you have followed me for a while you may remember the selections process and review I did at the time. In all these years my Ikea Friheten slipcover posts have been some of my most popular so I thought I share how my slipcover is holding up and my thoughts some 6 years later.
Since fall is here I also thought many of you may be ready for a change in scenery. What better way to upgrade your scenery than with a brand new sofa? Or at least what looks like one. For this post, Comfort Works has also been kind enough to extend to my readers a coupon code. When you use MAGGIE25 you will receive $25 off with a minimum purchase of $250 (USD). This code will be Valid until 30 November 2021. Sounds to me like the perfect excuse to get a new look for fall!
We bought our Friheten sleeper sofa in Germany in 2015, at the time I believe this was a new sofa to their line and only came in a couple of colors. We chose the grey and when Comfort Works reached out I chose a bright Kino Orange slipcover. Since then Ikea now sells the Friheten in orange and I’d like to think that’s because they saw how fabulous mine looked in its new slipcover.
How It’s Holding Up…
In the 6 years since receiving my Friheten Snug Fit slipcover we have lived in three houses and the sofa has lived in three different spaces. In that time the slipcover has been off and on several times depending on the decor and has been washed and lived on in our various guest spaces. It washes well and still looks just as vibrant as when it arrived and the fabric has held up well to the dogs and kids. I can’t vouch for the slipcover in a heavy use area as this sofa has remained in our secondary living space but for our purposes, it has worn amazingly well.
Pros…
- The price is by far the biggest pro on the Comfort Works slipcovers is definaly the price. If you have ever looked at the cost of custom slipcovers or those from places like Pottery Barn and West Elm you know the price can be almost $1000 or more. This slipcover retailed at $349 six years ago and even today with all the the rising costs retails at just $389. Plus they offer free worldwide shipping for any orders above USD $250, so there are no hidden costs.
- I was very impressed at how well made these slipcovers are made. the seams are heavy and all the raw edges are surged inside for exta durabily in washing and wear.
- Getting the look of upholstery in a slipcover is very hard to find but the Friheten Snug Fit slipcover does just that. while the snug fit is not available in every model it is available on most Ikea models.
- The whole point of slipcovers is flexibilty with the 56 different fabrics available you could feasibly have a new sofa every week of the year.
- If you have kids or pets cleanliness will be a big pro for you. With a machine washable slipcover stain worries will be a thing of the past.
- These not just Ikea slipcovers Comfort Works makes slipcovers for all different sofa and chair types from over 20 brands like Pottery Barn, West Elm and Crate ans Barrel.
- 3-year warranty
Cons…
- Full removal of the Friheten Snug Fit slipcover does require disassembly to remove which can be a hassle. the seat and back cushion covers are removable while the sofa is together so you can wash those as needed. I have worked around this by washing the slipcover when we have moved the sofa and needs to be disassembled anyway. If this is a deal-breaker for you or you need to wash often you would probably choose to go with the Loose fit cover that slides over the top of the sofa.
