I have just finished the One Room Challenge which always feels like such an accomplishment, but now it’s time to ponder my next project… I had a few in mind but the one that seems to have been bothering me for a while is my son Will, AKA the client’s, room. When we move into the house we set him up in the other bedroom which is about the same size but was more of a square shape. In this room, we did a navy, green, and orange color scheme which I loved but was unfortunately getting a little juvenile for a 16-year-old with lots of opinions.
More recently when we replaced the last of the carpet with hardwood, while the rooms were emptied, we moved him into the more rectangular-shaped bedroom shown below. This space would allow for a bigger desk and bed but it never got quite done, and the few things I did do kind of missed the mark. Now I’d love to finally get this new space pulled together in a more mature way.
The largest obstacle here is that the client is very particular and has lots of opinions about this space. I’m not sure why because it usually looks more like this… Wow I just notice there is only one drawer open in this photo, its usually three or four.
The second issue is this computer monstrosity that I have to work around… Not sure what to do about that? I do know this desk that I bought off Facebook Marketplace just as it is will be getting a makeover so it no longer blend with the wall color and the camera display needs to get moved up to accommodate the new bigger monitor he got for his birthday. Ahh well, boys and their toys…
On the up side the client is a big fan of vintage, so his camera collection and love of maps will help set the vintage vibe I’m hoping for in the new room. His other wish is a giant wall map so here is what I’m planning.
This update will be mostly cosmetic. The furniture and arrangement will stay essentially the same but the desk and side dressers will most likely get makeovers. The wall paint is new so hopefully, it will work with the color scheme of the new map but new paint is an option if necessary.
This long wall is where I’m planning a large map wall mural (gifted) from Academia Maps, There are many sizes and colors to choose from but Will AKA “The Client” chose the National Geographic Executive World Map so these are the colors we will be working around.
With that in mind, I went to my local wholesale carpet outlet and ran across this rug for just $169 in the perfect colors, online it retails for about $700, so I snatched it up.
It will be a nice upgrade from the old geometric rug and look a lot more mature.
So there is the plan, now time to execute and see if I can get it right this time… What do you think?
