Last week I completed a dresser makeover that is a pretty big transformation. I took a traditional pine dresser and turned it into a Hollywood Glam piece that is fabulous from top to bottom simply. The process was not difficult it just relied on changing a few simple elements.
You can see I started off with a pretty traditional stained dresser and she was a little worse for wear. My mother-in-law actually bought this piece in the ’80s and it passed on to my husband and is now going to live with my daughter. It is a great solid wood dresser but it has needed some love for quite some time. So before it moves to its next home I decided to give it a makeover.
I took off all the old hardware and filled in the holes which is one good thing about going from stain to paint, any holes or scratches that need to be filled are easily remedied with wood filler. Then the whole thing got good sand and was ready for paint.
I used my paint sprayer and quality cabinet paint with primer to apply and all over white finish.
The white paint alone is a pretty big transformation but I wanted to go full glam with some striking gold accents. Here’s what I used. (Affiliate links)
Because the drawers and dresser top already had a beveled edge I decided it was the perfect place to add an accent band of gold.
I taped off the drawer fronts and top leaving only the beveled edge exposed. Now it was time for the metallic brass spray paint.
All the edges got a coat of gold paint to really make them stand out.
With the tape removed and the gold edges exposed, I added a few other brass accents to amp up the glam. A more modern drawer pulls in two different lenghts and shiny brass keyhole escutcheons bring on on the glam and change the whole feel of the dresser.
This dresser actually has working locks on the drawers and since I just so happen to find a key in my stash that fit, I figured it needed some glam too with hot pink tassel. I made my own but Etsy is a great source for all kinds of beautiful tassels.
Now the old girl is glammed up and ready to go. Hmmm, now I’m considering if I should keep her for myself.
Just kidding, although she looks fabulous she’s ready to be passed on again. Road trip!

Maggie, this looks beautiful. You worked your magic on this one with all that glam!

Maggie you have such amazing artistic vision! I would never have come up with that beautiful design. I probably would have painted it black and changed the hardware and been proud of myself.

Thanks, but that’s something to be proud of too.

Beautiful and so great that it is something that can be passed on to other family members

Thanks Leslie! This has been a great little dresser. I’m glad Katie can get some use of it now.
