Hello all! I know, I know, I have been a little very absent lately. My only excuse is that life got really busy there for a while. My full time job has been taking up all my time and what I had left I just wanted for myself. Two and a half years ago I went to work for Lowe’s as a Project Specialist for Interiors (PSI.) I help customers plan and manage their kitchen and bath remodels from start to finish and work with a general contractor to complete the jobs. At least that’s what I used to do. On January 5th PSI’s nationwide were called in to to find out that Lowe’s was shutting down the program. The new CEO said the program wasn’t making enough money so as of February 15th we are all laid off!
At the time I was shocked but I was also a little excited. The corporate red tape and lack of proper tools to do my job at Lowe’s had been weighing me down for a while. I wanted to be more creative but didn’t have the time or flexibility. I’ll take part of the blame since I got comfortable in the familiar, I was good at my job, and I worked with great people, so why leave? This layoff was just the push I needed.
For my entire two and half years at Lowe’s I was blessed to worked alongside an amazing contractor and while nationwide the PSI program may not have been a success at our store it thrived. Together we planned and completed over a million dollars in kitchen and bath remodels. So you can imagine our surprise when we got the news that the program was closing with zero warning. Fortunately for us we always planned if to stay a team. So we are changing gears… but not directions.
Next month I will continue my design and project management of remodels only now I will be working directly for Home Solutions of Sumter. We will continue to provide a full service a design/build experience for the customer with in house design and product selection included in the price of construction. Only now, I will no longer be limited to Lowe’s products, I will no longer be limited to kitchens and bathrooms and I will be using my own tools (that work!) to get the job done. This also means I will be able to go back to some of the strictly home decor work I used to do. Oh fabric selection, how I have missed you!
I can’t tell you how excited I am for this change. I am so looking forward to building this new business and freedom to be more creative. and at present I am most excited about having carte blanche on the design build out of new office space (don’t worry lots to share on that soon.) So today in honor of my two and half years with Lowe’s I am sharing some of latest project photos.
It’s been a great run but I’m confident the next one will be even better. Wish me luck on this new endeavor!

I wish this had been a year ago. You and Al did a great job but I know it would’ve been easier without all of the red tape.

Thanks Kim, I think loosing the red tape may be what I’m looking forward to most.

I can’t wait to see your next design! I’ve enjoyed working with you for 2 1/2 years. Lowe’s really lost a great program but our community will be so excited at what else you can bring to the table with no corporate limitations. I’m very proud of you guys!

Thanks lady, I would not have survived it without you!
