Wow guys, I feel like I’m having sensory overload. Last weekend I attended the Haven Conference for design and DIY bloggers and learned so much my brain hurts. I know as a reader you probably don’t really think too much about what goes into blogging. I know I didn’t before I started and even for some time after. I knew the projects and the photos were important but I never realized how much technology and marketing were behind having a blog that is really successful. I spent this week trying to hash it all out and decide which things I need to implement immediately and which ones can come down the road or not at all.
I loved learning all this inciteful information but most of all I love that this conference gave me the chance to meet some of my blogger friends in person. At the end of this month my blog will be 3 years old and in that time I have met some amazing people who I know only online through texts and comments. This weekend I was able to meet many of these people in person, have real conversations with them, have a drink, hang out and really talk. For me, this was the biggest highlight. It is so easy to buy into online personas where pictures are perfect and imperfections are Photoshopped away but meeting a real person and hearing the real story is priceless. I loved these ladies and feel like I’ve gone home with some new best friends. Hight five to that!
Here are a few more high fives for the week…
1. I am always in love with the work of Amber Interiors but this before and after of a nursery turned big girl room is spot on!
2. OMG, this video! Watch as artist Garip Ay creates an interpretation of Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’ painting using a paper marbling technique. Simply fascinating!
3. Although things are not always neatly organized at my house there is something so satisfying about seeing things that are. If you feel the same you might want to check out Things Organized Neatly: The Art of Arranging the Everyday a coffee table book dedicated entirely to just that.
4. I’m always on the hunt for great lighting but that doesn’t always go together with a tight budget. This week I ran across an amazing fixture that fits both beauty and budget because it is Threshold by Target.
5. If I were headed to the dorms this fall this Igloo retro-inspired mini fridge would be on my must-have list. It is available in pink blue and black at Urban Outfitter
Have a great weekend,
