Happy #ThriftScoreThursday everybody, who’s ready for another round? I am!
Let me start with a confession, I have a terrible habit of buying things because I love the way they look or I love the price but I admit sometimes I overlook their function. For example I have a delicate vintage Chiavari chair that is absolutely beautiful but not very practical for any heavy-duty sitting, actually we don’t sit in it at all, but it looks really pretty in the corner. In our living room my poor husband just wants one comfy practical chair to sit in so over the years there have been a string of chairs, too small, too hard, too bouncy most of them fit my idea of form but not his idea function.
But recently I finally found a chair that fit the bill for both!
You may remember this chair I shared a while back on Instagram only then it had quite a different look. The chair looks mid-century but actually is a rather new chair produced by Sam Moore. It retailed for about $1,000 but I bought this one at my local thrift store for $125 in pretty great condition. The bonus for my husband, it is also a recliner.
The only problem was the upholstery which was not bad but didn’t go with the rest of the space. So the chair hung out looking a little awkward (but comfortable) until I ran across the perfect fabric. As luck would have it I found a 6 yard end of bolt deal at a flea market for just $40. I loved the tweed but I wasn’t sure if my husband would love that is was pink. for once I called and asked if pink was okay. Fortunately he is secure in his manhood and said pink was fine.
Off my chair went to the upholsterer and when it returned it was just right for me and my hubby!
Now for your #ThriftScoreThursday finds.
For newcomers let me explain just what #ThriftScoreThursday is. We want you to participate! Hit up your local thrift stores, craigslist, yard sales, estate sales, side of the road, anything! Thrifty doesn’t necessarily mean from a thrift store. We want to see your good deals, wacky finds and true treasures.
You can share your finds any day of the week but features are shared on our blogs and Instagram on Thursdays, but we’re all checking in on (and using!) the hashtag all week long. So, when you see/find it, feel free to share it! And we love it when you tag your friends to play along, too!
Each week Cassie from Primitive and Proper, Corinna from A Designer At Home, Brynne from The Gathered Home, myself and occasionally a guest co-host will pick a few favorite thrift scores to feature on our blogs! Please note that by linking up with #ThriftScoreThursday, you are giving us permission to share your finds via social media or on our blogs.
My favorite finds: I think I might be feeling a little Chinoiserie this week have a look,
steadyfeelinirie shared this cute vignette of goodies heading to her 8-year-old son’s room (vintage tin tiger tray – $1 • pink asian ceramic – $3)
thriftcandy found these two campaign style end tables which are exactly what I was hunting a while back.
thebeauideal found the chinoiserie version of Destinys Child, pretty hip gal’s I’d say.
and mariaski63 shared this orchid painting. I’m always a fan of thrifted art.
Great finds everyone!
Now don’t forget to stop by and check out all my co-hosts to see what they’ve been up and their favorite #ThriftScoreThursday finds.
