It’s #ThriftScoreThursday and today I have a little thrift score makeover for you. This makeover actually involves a few thrift scores which were purchased on separate occasions but actually ended up working perfectly together.
Several weeks ago I spotted a little mid-century coffee table at a thrift store for $20. I loved the shape but the top was Formica, the finish was pretty beat up and it is rather low for a coffee table. I loved the shape and the legs but I really didn’t think I could save it as a coffee table so I left it for someone else.
A week or two later I am back at the same thrift store and little the table is still there only this time I am on the hunt for something specific. I am wanting a new bench for my bedroom, suddenly this little table is showing great potential! The short height makes it perfect for adding 3-4″ of foam and the Formica top now makes no difference and after a quick check underneath I see the top is easily removable for upholstery. It’s perfect, well at least for what I want it for.
Now that I knew what this little table wanted to be I needed a plan and It just so happened that I already had about 2 1/2 yards of the perfect fabric I scored for $9 at a flea market a few months back. At the time I wasn’t sure what I would use it for but knew it was the color I wanted to use when I update my bedroom. All I needed was a little foam and refinishing to make this transformation happen. (I’ll show you the details on this update on Monday, for today lets enjoy the results.)
Oh yeah and that super cute leopard print fabric on the pillow came from the flea market too!
Let me explain just what #ThriftScoreThursday is. We want you to participate! Hit up your local thrift stores, craigslist, yard sales, estate sales, side of the road, anything! Thrifty doesn’t necessarily mean from a thrift store. We want to see your good deals, wacky finds and treasures.
You can share your finds any day of the week but features are shared on our blogs and Instagram on Thursdays, but we’re all checking in on (and using!) the hashtag all week long. So, when you see/find it, feel free to share it! And we love it when you tag your friends to play along, too!
Each week Cassie from Primitive and Proper, Corinna from A Designer At Home, Brynne from The Gathered Home, myself and occasionally a guest co-host will pick a few favorite thrift scores to feature on our blogs! Please note that by linking up with #ThriftScoreThursday, you are giving us permission to share your finds via social media or on our blogs.
Now for my favorite finds:
A great thrift score isn’t always about what you find but about what you do with it. Katie at rus_in_urbe_hom wins the prize for this one! How gorgeous is this this old wooden cubby she thrifted for 99 cents after it’s turned into an air plant wonderland?
Color and a collection I’m sold! Brittany at realityandretrospect shared this shot of a beautiful glass collection.
Our host Brynne from The Gathered Home recently shared her thrifted living room with an amazing ceramic zebra she scored and now Jenc184 has found one of her own. I think I’m now on the hunt for a zebra because these totally rocks!
Some days you are out hunting and the thrift gods are smiling down on you. I think elizabethrosedesigns_ was having one of those days when she brought in this haul. Lots of brassy wonderfulness!
Great finds everyone!
Now don’t forget to stop by and check out all my co-hosts to see what they’ve been up and their favorite #ThriftScoreThursday finds. This week we also have Ariel from PMQ For Two joining in the fun so be sue to give here a warm welcome.
Would you like to be a guest host? If re you an avid blogger + Instagrammer who also loves thrifty finds? We’d love to have you join us for a week of Thrift Score Thursday! If you’re interested, you can apply right here!

Oh my goodness, what a stunning transformation of that little table I would probably pass by a hundred times without buying because of the formica top! The pink fabric is amazing – I need to learn your upholstery ways!!!

Oh, my! this area is lovely! Does anyone know the source of the gorgeous painting above the bench?

Hello Kristen, I actually painted the picture myself when I was sixteen. I went to an Art High School (NOCCA) for Visual Arts and over the summers we were supposed produce three works to be critiqued when we returned in the fall. This painting was one of those and one of the few I still have from that time. I stretched the canvas myself on an old window frame because I couldn’t afford a ready made canvas this size and painted it with inexpensive bottled craft acrylic. Glad to know it withstood the test of time and you like it.
