I love a good then and now photo so the ones I have to share with you today are a real treat for me. I am so excited to share!
This weekend I received the most lovely email from the granddaughter of the the original owners of the house we rent here in Germany. Not only did she send me a couple of photos of the house in it’s first years. She wrote:
“My Dad sent me a link to your blog and I was just stunned when I saw the images of the house in Heilsbronn. I have so many childhood memories about this house and it amazing to see how you transformed it into this wonderful well designed modern family home. Just wow!
I thought you might be interested in what the house looked like in the past…”
The original owners came to Bavaria from Czechoslovakia after WWII with absolutely nothing. They worked hard and in 1962 they built this house from the ground up and raised their family here. Our landlords are their two children seen in the photo above. These photo touched my heart in a way I could not have imagined. We love our house here in Germany and I can see we were not the first ones to love it. Such an amazing story and a wonderful history!
Thank You Chris!
From the front not much has changed but you can see how the trees have grown.
Views of the kitchen. The landlord says the kitchen we have now was installed about 30 years ago. The one shown above is the original kitchen.
The porch is one of our favorite spots here it is now along with a few historical views.
This photo shows the original owners dancing under my favorite original fixture in the house. The awesome mid-century chandelier, you can see it peaking in on my photo too.

This is so lovely. Having been born in Bavaria the old pictures are quite nostalgic for me, the dining room looks very similar to my grandparents dining room (it still looks like that 🙂 ). Thanks for sharing that, really enjoyed it.

Glad you liked it Marlene, We still have a banquet like that up in our attic. Not sure if it is the same one but I definitely see them a lot here.
