Hello All, It has been a while since I’ve checked in but that’s because I’ve been so busy working on other peoples kitchens and bathrooms I haven’t has much time to report on my own.
Speaking of bathrooms I realized I have yet share the bathroom make over at our Home Solutions of Sumter offices. I admit some of it was procrastination but also a little disappointment at not getting perfect photos since the bathroom has no natural light. I decided I’d just work with what I had and hope you guys would know it looks 100 times better in person.
If you remember we built out office out in a warehouse space so the bathroom started as something you might see in a gas station (only cleaner.) The dated light fixture was the only halfway decorative accessory and even that was nothing to rave about. My thought was that if this office was about selling kitchens and bathrooms the bathroom needed a lot of work.
I wanted this bathroom to be a jewel box, a fun surprise when you open the door. In my dream bathroom I would have loved to go all out with fancy tile but this is not a permanent space for us. It is also a rental so the money we put in here will probably be passed on to the next tenant. The next best (cheaper) thing was to do a board and batten wainscotting with a fun wallpaper. The simple addition of trim and paint to the lower half of the wall elevated the space for less than $100.
For the floors I used a wood look Legacy Oak luxury vinyl plank by Procore laid on the diagonal. I find laying tile and flooring in an unexpected pattern always adds a sense of luxury.
For the wallpaper I knew I wanted something fun and unexpected. When the contractor I work with said he was down with pink I lept on this Tempaper Flamingo print. It goes up quick and easy and we can peel it down if we every move on to a new location.
For the vanity I thought I was going to paint a white vanity I found on clearance at Lowe’s but when the paint didn’t stick to the cheap finish I had to go to plan B. The sink top off of the clearance vanity was salvageable so figured I could mount it in a table. When I found this sewing machine table that was the perfect size and already had a cut out opening in the top I knew it was meant to be, and it came with a cool aqua blue vintage sewing machine (seen on the floor below.)
Another paint job, that did stick, and a few gold pulls and I was in business.
Yes, I decided to go gold with the fixtures because it look great with navy. and because gold is back with a vengeance. Plus, sometimes it helps a customer to see something new and different to encourage them to be a little more adventurous too. The faucet is a Jacuzzi Duncan in Brushed Bronze an the accessories are Gatco Latitude II also in Brushed Bronze.
The mirror is a vintage piece I grabbed from my house (a garbage pile find) and the lighting is a Staggered Glass Sconce by West Elm.
We needed a little storage since the vanity was open so a mirrored storage piece from Homegoods and a piece of 3d art fill the opposite corner.
But the art that is my favorite addition is Marilyn Monroe blowing a bubble. I found her already framed in an antique shop after the wallpaper was hung and I knew she was meant to be here. Plus the guys seem to enjoy her if they come in to use the bathroom. If you think you need one too, I found her here, but you’ll have to frame her up this pretty yourself.
She works great here don’t you think?
Perfect pictures or not I’d say this gas station to glam makeover is just what I wanted for my jewel powder room surprise.
