As you know we moved into our new house last month and though the progress is slower than usual I AM making progress. This week I finally finished hanging all the art and antlers in the sun room. This at one time was a porch but sometime in the 90’s a new master bedroom was added to the house (through the french doors at the far end) and the porch was enclosed making a huge sun room all the way across the back of the house. Since this new sun room is climate controlled I have a little more flexibility in what I used in here. The feel I was going for is British Colonial meets Bohemian. Think Out of Africa!
Here is what we started with.
The first thing to go was the bright yellow paint. In its place we used a creamy white just a few shades off the right white trim for a little contrast.
You may remember some of the decor from our screen porch at the old house and some from the man cave. The furniture is almost all the same with the exception of a few additional pieces like our “new” old rocking chair and the orange cabinet that no longer fit in my son’s room.
Since we had the room I also added the pub table and chairs we used as an island in the old kitchen at the far end for games and eating.
There are, of course, a few other things I would like to add to the room like more lighting and maybe upgrade the resin wicker chairs so they can go outside on the deck but for now having this room finally pulled together gives us a nice relief from the rest of the house that is still in a bit of chaos.
But what really gives us relief is the view. The back yard looks out onto a marsh that will one day be a lake once the dam is repaired.
Until then there is a little creek that runs behind the house which is full of wildlife. We have a whole slew of turtles. Ducks a geese are always swimming by or hanging out in the yard. We have a bunny friend and I’ve even see a fox out on the back deck. In the mornings we can sit here with our coffee and watch the zoo outside.
I have to admit this is shaping up to be one of my favorite rooms in the house.
