We are finally there, Week Six of the One Room Challenge hosted by Linda of Calling It Home , and it’s time for the big reveal! For the last six weeks I have been working ard to complete a full makeover of our laundry room for the One Room Challenge. Every Wednesday for the past five weeks I have been sharing my progress and products but today I’m I’m finally ready to share the finished room. I won’t be the only one sharing,  twenty featured bloggers and over two hundred guest participant will be linking their own room transformations. Lots of inspiration!

But before we get to the details I want to give a big thanks to my One Room Challenge Sponsors who helped make this room possible!

Now let’s  remember what the room looked like before, not awful but not at all inspiring.

These were my goals for this makeover:

  • Install countertop over washer dryer
  • Decorative backslash
  • New Paint
  • New Lighting
  • Better use of pantry, possibly mudroom bench
  • Place to feed pets
  • Do something on the floor to cover or replace
  • Do something to make the array of doors more interesting.
  • Make it Fun!

My first thought for this room was to make it colorful and fun because if I’m going to have to do laundry I might as well enjoy being in there.

My two big inspirations were this  removable wallpaper  by Joan Mclemore on Spoonflower

wallpaper

And this Pizzazz Rug from Home Decorators Collection.

So let’s see how I did…

  • New Paint √

That was an easy one. I decided to match the paint in the adjoining bathroom which is a shade or two darker than the paint I used in the kitchen.

  • Better use of pantry, possibly mudroom bench √

This involved some creative construction and some fun accessories.  I can’t get over how fabulous the wallpaper looks in this small space.

but this mud bench just goes to show you a little goes a long way, especially with my  D. Lawless Hardware.

  • Do something to make the array of doors more interesting. √

Nothing a little paint and decorative masking tape can’t handle.

  • Counter top over washer dryer √

Solid core veneered doors made easy work of this project.

  • Decorative Backsplash √

This was such an easy project using Aspect honeycomb peel and stick tiles and a little spray paint.

And of course, I added a few accessories!

  • New Lighting √

A $10 vintage chandelier added a little elegance to the space.

dsc02461Place to feed pets √

And who can forget the pets who use this room the most.

My vintage radio tuned “cat house” got a new look with the help of my Wagner Spray Tech paint sprayer.

and a simple modification to my mud bench has everyone a designated place to eat. Of course, the one that finishes last gets a lot of attention…

  • Do something on the floor to cover or replace √

I thought about replacing the floor but once I laid down my Pizzazz Rug from Home Decorators Collection I didn’t hate the old floor nearly as much.

Ozzie seems to approve too and he has very discerning taste.

  • Make it Fun! √

I think I got that covered with lots of color, the addition of Cricket by LeighViner, and plenty of quirky vintage finds like my genie lamp and vintage ceramic.

I’d say this makeover was a success and hopefully it will inspire the WHOLE family to do laundry. A girl can hope right?

    1. Thanks Jess I’m in love the new bench too, was not sure if the small amount of wallpaper would have enough impact but now that it’s done I think it’s my favorite part of the room.

  1. This space is killer! I LOVE the bold colours and patterns! Especially that wallpaper. I predict a feature in a magazine one day 🙂

  2. Maggie, it’s fantastic! I love all of the color so much! The little door valance is probably my favorite element. It’s so sweet and unexpected!

  3. Now that’s some laundry room! The wallpaper and peel-and-stick backsplash are fantastic. Love the color and pattern play in the space (and throughout your home for that matter). Genius ideas for the “pet feeding” stations! Great job, Maggie! Congrats on another well-done ORC!!!

  4. I love it so much Maggie! You are so creative with your color choices, tile, and of course pet feeders! It is such a happy room now! And, of course I’m drooling over that wallpaper still!

  5. Wow, I would totally hate doing laundry less if my laundry room looked like this! Love the closet nook with that wonderful wallpaper! Great job!

  6. Damn girl, you are good!!!!! Your landlord, I bet, is loving all that you are doing to his home. This is one of the prettiest laundry rooms I have seen!!!!!

  7. Maggie!! I am seriously swooning!! That closet transformation alone is a stunner! The textures and colors are beautiful. This was one room I couldn’t wait to see – glad to see another bloggers Laundry reveal. This is just gorgeous! Congrats on an amazing reveal!

  8. Oh Maggie! I am so wildly impressed with the way you were able to transform the space with non-permanent solutions! And I adore all the color! I think that backsplash is still one of my favorite parts of the space, but the wallpaper and rug combo is killer as well! Wonderful job!

  9. It’s gorgeous! You used so many bright colors, but they coordinate incredibly well. I love that you incorporated smart functional space for your adorable pets, too. I’d be happy to do laundry in such a pretty space.

  10. Your room looks beautiful! I love all the color you added (such a good idea to spray paint a few of the metal tiles in the back splash!) and the creative use of furniture pieces for your pets. You’re right – that wallpaper just makes the space!

  11. BOY oh boy did you make it fun, Maggie! Only you could bring so much joy to a laundry room. Love what you did with the closet bench space so much, and all of the pet projects (and pets!!) really brought a smile to my face. I had to turn the monitor away from Jellybeans before she started asking why she doesn’t get to eat inside a radio, too!

  12. What a fun laundry room! I love the wallpaper inside the nook! And that light fixture adds such fun to the room!

  13. Your bold color choices are beautiful!! I still can’t get over that confetti tile backsplash idea and your thrifted finds are the perfect touches!! Darling door, the list goes on and on! I especially love that planter / bowl sitting on the vintage radio – is that thrifted, too? Love it, Maggie!!

  14. Oh my goodness!!! This room is spectacular!!!! Adore the colors and the accents are so quirky and fun!!! Beautiful job!
