Girl’s Room Fit for a Teen in Aqua and Coral

DSC00454

The big day has finally arrived! You have seen little bits and pieces and some of the projects that have led up to this moment but today I can finally show my fifteen year old daughter’s room as complete and ready for a big reveal!

When we moved into the house the room had fresh paint that would have been fine had my son chosen the room but for my daughter the color was not what she wanted. Her original plans for the room had always been pink and aqua and while I had some ideas for the room her plans were a little different, so I let her be the boss.

We started with a coat of Valspar Italian Ice, which Katie actually helped me paint. It made a big difference in brightening up the space. We also gave the vintage Jenny Lind style bed, which was pink in her last room, a fresh coat of black paint to match the Martha Stewart WHIM Zebras and the Pink Chevron Quilt Katie picked out before we even moved in.

Add in the DIY’s you’ve seen along the way and a lot of great fabric and we ended up with this…

Okay so maybe it was a little more work than that, we have been in the house for six months after all. I’ve sewn curtains, pillows, and upholstered the box spring using Premier Prints fabrics. I installed floating shelves for added storage.

And for the sake of savings I also pulled items that were used in other rooms of our last house that would work better in this room of the new house. The chair was in our old living room and the Ikea rug and pillow were once in our  master bedroom.

But they work equally well in this new space.

And of course the DIY’s you saw here, the photo frame, the desk/vanity and the color blocked chair.

I even took the time to paint a custom piece of art to hang over the bed.

A few small accessory purchases and a lot of hard work later I was finally able to pulled it all together.

And create the perfect teen girl’s room that was just what Katie wanted…

    1. Thank you Rita, Painting is actually where all my creativity started unfortunately I have been away from it for a long time. Glad to be back!

  1. Maggie, you are incredible! I know I’ve already gushed over that typewriter painting, but seriously – AMAZING! I love the mix of colors and fabrics in this room, and my favorite little detail is the miniature pink bike with the air plant in its basket – where is it from? I need it in my life!

    1. Thanks Brynne! The bike is from Hobby Lobby I bought it last Summer before we even moved in the house but I have seen similar ones elsewhere. The box shelf is from that last seasonal set from Micheal’s and just so happen to be a perfect fit. I added the air plant myself.

    1. Lucy I did not do a tutorial but there are quite a few online if you search “upholstered box spring.” For mine I used hot glue to adhere the fabric to the top of the boxspring and a staple gun to attach it to the wood frame on the bottom.
