Mid-Century Mix With Any Decor

Several months ago I was asked to do a guest blog for the interior design blog M{Pression. I shared the link here but never shared with you the actual content of the article. I have found that for me the topic of mixing mid-century modern furniture with any decor is becoming more and more relevant. In Germany I am finding such a great resource for good quality affordable mid-century furniture that I just can’t help but buy it up.  If you happen to find any of these great pieces don’t be afraid to snatch them up, Here’s why…
Mid 0Okay so I may have watched a few too many episodes of Mad Men, I admit, but I am a huge fan of mid-century modern furniture. While I love the retro-inspired look, even for me, a whole room full of it is a little too masculine and stark. Fortunately, mid-century furniture seems to mix seamlessly with all kinds of décor and never seems to go out of style.Mid 7Mid 8Whether you have traditional, rustic or ultra modern furniture a mid-century piece that you love can work. The clean lines and thoughtful design that make mid-century design blend well in almost any environment are also what make it so timeless. You can find these original pieces at flea markets and antiques stores or go for reproduction versions available at many retailers. Mid 5Mid 3Don’t be afraid to update mid-century pieces to suit your style by upholstering it in something a little more modern or even adding a little color. If you’re not ready for large furniture pieces try ’60s inspired accessories or light fixtures. Let me warn you though once you get hooked there is no turning back.Mid 9 Mid 6 Mid 2 Mid 4 Mid 1

  1. I’m bookmarking this page so that sometime later next year, when I finally buy my house, I’ll have an inspiration-and-ideas page to consult. I’m so pleased that simple, classic mid century design has finally come into its own! I’m old enough to remember when it was considered boring and old fashioned because it was “everyone’s mom’s furniture”, but I always loved it.

    1. Thanks for stopping by. So exciting getting to decorate a new house (I get to do it a bit too often.) I just love mid century furniture. I remember the great pieces my grandmother had and wish I had thought to grab it when she move out of her house. Come by and visit anytime…
