Add Charm to New Constuction with Reclaimed Wood! This week I had the honor of visiting the Covington, LA home of Jim and Janice Pemberton. Although this custom-built  home is only a year old it has all the charm of cottages from decades ago.  Mostly because this stark white modern home is full of beautiful warm reclaimed wood. Combine this with a mix of lovely antiques and Correna marble accents and you have instant character.

Okay so it’s not quite that easy, a year of design plus a year of building and lots of scavenging are what it took to bring this beautiful house together. Janice being an antique dealer didn’t hurt either. Years of shopping for others meant she was not afraid of a hunt and she knew exactly where to look. Most of the doors and windows came from a New Orleans wood stripping and architectural salvage company but the contractor was also able to help with reclaimed wood floors and beautiful cypress beams.

You will see there is nothing cookie cutter about this new build.

A completely open floor plan between the living room, dining room, and kitchen means lots of light in every space with warm heart pine floors tying it all together.

Look above the bookshelf in the picture below.  A creative use of a reclaimed sidelight allows natural light from the hallway to flow into an interior bathroom. Even here a reclaimed french door is used on the linen closet.

Lucky for Janice, Jim is pretty good with tools. This headboard in the master bedroom, also made from a reclaimed door is, all his handy work!

Don’t think the master bath is any exception, reclaimed wood and Carrera marble make this space quite a retreat.

MaggieOverbyStudios.comReclaimed isn’t the only lumber you’ll find at the Pemberton’s home. When a quest for the perfect bunk beds didn’t pan out, Jim got to work again creating the perfect space for a grand baby Although you would never know it from the photos Janice claims the house is not quite finished. Lucky for me that means I have a good excuse for another visit to check out the final product.

Either way, this creative couple has created an amazing space and I am so thankful for them for sharing it with me!
