Last week I shared with you some pretty amazing white painted floors so this week I thought I would take you to the dark side and share with you my new obsession with black painted ceilings. This dramatic design element can do great thing for all different kind of spaces with such little effort
Because a black ceiling almost disappears it gives the feeling of infinite space. This can bring a high ceiling down and force low ceilings up.
For the same reason a black ceiling can also hide a multitude of sins. You often see this technique used in restaurants or lofts where all the mechanical elements are exposed. Paint them all black and they just seem to blend in.
A black ceiling can also add drama to an otherwise un-architectural space. A basic square room with a flat ceiling suddenly become a whole lot more interesting.
The opposite is also true, if you have great architectural trim work in white painting everything else black will really make it pop!
No matter what you are trying to accomplish with a black ceiling it will always be dramatic.
